The Department of Employment and Labour (DEL), will launch the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Labour Activation Programme (LAP) in the KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday 16 April 2024.
The UIF Labour Activation Programme is a national programme that will see over 700 000 beneficiaries across the country, majority youth, being trained, reskilled and placed into jobs or assisted to start their businesses.
In KwaZulu-Natal the partnership with Provincial Government targets more than 100 000 beneficiaries who will be placed in various sectors of the economy including among others farming, maritime and renewable energy, through 49 projects.
This will be achieved through partnerships with training providers that are located in various districts of KwaZulu-Natal such as eThekwini Metro, Ugu, as well as Harry Gwala Districts.
“We are excited that this programme responds to the key priorities and needs of the Province, as was outlined in the State of the Province Address. Importantly we want to ensure that this programme also absorbs unemployed graduates. We will deliberately link the LAP with many Provincial Government Programmes such as Sthesha Waya-Waya Operation Vula Fund, Radical Agrarian Social-Economic Transformation (RASET) and many others, to ensure that there is access to market for the skills, services and products that are realized through this programme” said Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube
The LAP remains a crucial programme for mitigating job losses and fostering economic growth in South Africa. Through a collaborative and applicant-driven approach, the programme empowers employers and individuals while contributing to a more resilient labour market.
