The KwaZulu-Natal Executive Council today, 27 March 2024 visited eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality to engage with various communities on issues of service delivery. This was done through Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) Cabinet Day, a platform that provides community members an opportunity to engage directly with Members of the Executive Council and senior government officials on service delivery.
This innovative and ground-breaking OSS programme, which started in KZN and has now been studied for adoption by other provinces, is aimed at strengthening public participation while enabling Government to assess progress in service delivery. It also serves as a platform to monitor, evaluate, and fast-track the implementation of various services and programmes to improve the lives of communities in various wards.
Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube led all Members of the Executive Council (MECs) as they visit various wards in eThekwini, where they performed oversight on government programmes and community projects supported by government and other services centres while engaging with ordinary community members.
The Premier then held a community engagement at Wiggins Community Hall, in Mayville.
During the community engagement sessions, the Premier and Members of the Executive Council listened to the community as they highlighted their plights concerning service delivery issues and social ills plaguing them.
Some of the issues that the Premier discussed at the Community engagement included clean-up operation following municipal workers strike, electricity, water and sanitation, employment, housing, job opportunities and many other issues.
Officials from Home Affairs, SASSA and other government departments were on site to offer essential services to the community.
